The Levitating Charm can be very useful, as it can make objects fly in the air and make it move to the desired position of the caster. The incantation for the Charm is, Wingardium Leviosa. You have to swish and flick your wand while casting. Pronounce the gar in Wingardium Leviosa nice and long.
Personal Example: Phillip stands up Ok I'll try it now. "ok remember swish and flick, swish and flick" he thinks to hisself . Phillip holds out his wand points it at the apple " Swish and Flick" and then says Wingardium Leviosa the apple floats up two inches then falls back down. Phillip points his wand again at the apple and says Wingardium Leviosa! this time the apple rose off the desk and floats about 5 feet in the air. Phillip then lowers the apple, goes back to his seat..and asks professor Vinayak How did i do?
Example from the movie:
Was used by Hermione in book 1 in Charms class on a feather
Was uesd by Ron in Book 1 on the troll
Was used by Harry in Book 5 When Bellatrix casts a spell over a shoulder and the tank rises in the air and tips. Harry avoids them by sending them back up in the air

Charms Homework
There is some confusion to the levitating charm. When Harry Potter took the O.W.L for charms he never mentioned that it was the Wingardium Leviosa spell used to do the levitating charm. With me being only a second year, I haven't taken the O.W.L so I don't know. So this then brings up the thought that nothing was mentioned about the Levitating charm, so I will explain the levitating charm as the Wingardium Leviosa spell.
The Spell:
Wingardium Leviosa
The correct pronunciation is (win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa)
The correct pronunciation of each word is prudent in casting every spell.
Wingardium as far as I can tell comes from Latin. wing + arduus means high, or steep.
levitas means raise up or to make higher which is equal to making something lighter in Latin. The word Levitas orginated in about 1555 to 1565.
Wingardium Leviosa together would mean to make something higher or lighter. So I would assume that when you are casting said spell the object you are pointing it to would be made lighter or cause it to lose density and make it less dense than air almost like a gas (in muggle chemistry) but without altering it's physical state. Well, so, this is my assumption.
The Movements
When casting the Wingardium Leviosa spell it is essential to use the "Swish and Flick" movement. Carefully aiming your wand at the intended object.
Wingardium Leviosa and Swish and Flick
When you aim your wand at the intended object, say Wingardium and use the swish movement you send the message that it is that object you want to be levitated.
Then, when you say Leviosa along with the flick movement, while still aiming at the object, it levitates the object.
Wingardium and Swish is the message, while Leviosa and Flick is the action.
Tips
It is very important that you have the correct pronunciation when casting the spell.
It is also very important to use the proper movement: Swish and Flick.
Keep in mind that Wingardium is the message and you must say it with the proper Swish movement then the action is Leviosa and use the secondary movement Flick.
Things to Keep in Mind when using the Spell
It's good to remember that intention affects magic, so regardless of how heavy the object, the object will most likely levitate, even if the spell seems to only be intended for feathers (hence the the "wing" in wingardium seems to be specific to feathers).
This concludes the Levitating Spell.

The Levitating Charm one of the beginer charms and useful in moving objects of varying size, shape and mass to any desired place the caster wishes to... The spell is cast by a series of precautions the Pronunciations of the Spell must be clear and correct..and it must be in resonance with the wand movement i.e Swish and flick...
For example I was on my way to the Boys room when i saw that boulders had fallen down assuming that someone would get hurt while they were walking i pulled out my wand and chanted Wingardium Leviosa [Swish and flick]...then i positioned the wand slowly with a small shaky movement to wards the other side from where the bolder has fallen from... and then i continued my way to the boys room.....!!!
And the Spell is not only used for objects on the ground but also for the objects falling down....or on an event of falling down...!!!
for another example to this Outside the school ground on the tree were some eggs as i had been noticing em' for a while i went to see weather it had hatched...when i went down to catch a glimpse of whats happening i saw that it was hatching and it was moving during its movement the eggs rolled out and was going ot fall to the ground and the nest was at a Height...I swish and flick and chanted in resonance Wingardium Leviosa and levitated the egg towards the nest again before it could fall to the ground....!!! Well later when i wanted to see the egg is climbed the tree to see the young one and at that time its mother came and I fell to the ground then i thought i should have used the spell then again to break my fall!!!
This concludes my assignment...!!!! Le Fin!!!
